Gulf South Summit Hosted by the University of Houston Downtown
Conference Theme: Bridging the Bayou - Pathways of Community
Throughout time, humanity has forged pathways to communicate and share resources. This behavior has taken on a dynamic range of forms, from roads and bridges to texting and the internet. The paths and strategies of connection we form shape community both physically and culturally. This year, the Gulf South Summit will feature presentations that engage notions of how the pathways and connections we make either impact and/or inform community engagement.
Five subthemes were also drafted to offer a deeper dive into what to expect at this year's summit: 1. Shifting Foundations: Modern fundamental changes in how communities form, change, and represent themselves - 2. Blockage and Clearance: Physical, infrastructural, financial, or organizational barriers or portals to community engagement - 3. Convergence and Intersections: How increasing or decreasing hyperconnectivity can impact community engagement - 4. Floods and Droughts: Too much of one thing, not enough of another. How complimentary partnership can fill the gaps - 5. Gauging the Waters: Using research and assessment to course correct or gain deeper insight
