Community, Compassion, & Connection: Implementing an inclusive community model

This workshop will teach participants about a dynamic culturally responsive community inclusion model. This model engages subgroups across university, faith-based institutions, and community groups to address identified community needs. Social isolation is a pervasive problem for individuals with intellectual and developmental challenges that result in moderate to severe limitations with communication and cognition and their families. Sustaining School-Community Partnerships: Lessons from the Field

The potential of school-community partnerships is well documented. So too, regrettably, is the low sustainability rate of the same. In this interactive session the presenters will share their work with O Grows, a partnership that has been engaging K-12 student and adult residents around local food needs in east central Alabama since 2012, to frame a discussion of how new partnerships can be sustained in any community.
